Comparison of gulls - (Photo by Lol Middleton) 10th December
This is a good shot to compare mantle colour. The YLG is midway between the Adult Herring gull (right) -Argenteus- and the LBB gull in the foreground. The LBB could be an Intermedius from it's dark mantle colour. From the mantle colour, a YLG is a good starting point.
It's size is also bigger than the HG & LBB in the shot.
There are a lot more shots taken by Lol from this date at http://www.pbase.com/lolmid/ylg (helpfull in showing size and head streaking.
I've called our YLG gull "P8" due to the missing white spot on P8 of it's left wing.
