1st Winter Caspian
Taken at Cosmeston, South Wales.
These are important shots as this is the first photographic record of a Caspian Gull in South Wales (if it is accepted by the Welsh Records Committee). It would have been the first in Wales but the day before this shot was taken, a similar gull was seen and photographed at Gresford Flash nr Wrexham. It is yet to be seen if either sighting gets accepted by the records committee but this one is 'pure' Cachinnnans as supported by the comments on the UK Gulls Facebook site so has the best possible chance.
Note the white head, the clear 'shawl', long parallel bill with a hint of pale at the base, the long legs and possibly the biggest clue the very pale to white underwing. A cracking first winter female caspian.
