Common Crane

Common Crane

Seen flying over Cosmeston in South Wales.
The bird bottom right is tagged on the right leg with Red/Black/Red - so from the Great Crane Project web site is Tamsin. A female born in 2010.
The bird at the top is tagged on the right leg with Black/ Green/Blue so is the male bird Chocolo, born in April 2012 and released in October 2012.
The bird bottom left does not appear to have a tags but is thought by Damon (head of the Great Crane Project) to be certainly one of their birds. The tags will get covered by feathers in flight so not always easy to see. Damon also confirmed that all cranes ringed in Europe use the same 3 colour ring system on each leg.

The Great Crane Project web site is a good source of information. Find it at
http://www.thegreatcraneproject.org.uk/

Tamsin was seen this year on April 24th up at Slimbridge and then again back on the Somerset Levels on the 5th May, and Cholcolo was seen at the Costwold water park on the 24th April and again back on the Levels on the 5th May. They are quite mobile and come and go a lot. Highly likely to see them again.
